With the strong backing of the engineering community in BHEL and National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi, the Tiruchi Local Centre of Institute of Engineers, India (IEI) plans to offer coaching for AMIE (Associate Member of the Institute of Engineers) examination, for the benefit of local candidates.
The exam, recognised by the AICTE, UPSC and the Central and State governments as equivalent to B.E/B.Tech, has many takers in the district. The Tiruchi Local Centre of IEI which has student chapters in a few engineering colleges in the city is in the process of motivating many other institutions to derive the benefit of the membership.
In the absence of finishing schools, it is the professional bodies such as the IEI that would equip the students with the extra edge to be relevant in the job market, N. Kumaresan, Chairman, IEI, Tiruchi Local Centre, said.
The colleges have branch-wise student chapters that organise events with the support of experts in the Tiruchi Local Centre. The local centre of the professional body has been conducting technical talk every Tuesday that are useful for the faculty members and students. The Centre is also readying a library that would be of immense utility to the faculty members and students of engineering colleges.
The IEI, Tiruchi Local Centre, which is set to start off its centenary celebration from 2019 has planned three workshops at the NIT-T in Mechanical, Electronics and Electrical areas during June-July. Next month, a convention and national seminar will be conducted by the Production Engineering department, Prof. Kumaresan said.
