City may get farm fresh outlets soon

May 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The Department of Cooperation has begun the process of exploring the possibility of setting up a farm fresh vegetable outlet in Tiruchi.

The outlets, operated in different locations in Chennai, have received good patronage.

A senior official of the department told The Hindu that the government was inclined to open more farm fresh outlets across various districts of the State, including Tiruchi. Hence, it had started evaluating the possibility of opening an outlet in the city.

The success of the outlet would depend upon the ability of the department to source fresh vegetables from nearby areas.

The study would include the availability of commonly-used vegetables and fruits in and around Tiruchi and patronage of customers for such outlets. A final decision would be taken soon.
