Cine artistes seek police protection ahead of polls

October 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A group of cine artistes petitioned the city police on Tuesday appealing to the police to “retrieve their voting rights” for the election to the Nadigar Sangam.

In a petition to the Fort Police station, S.V. Babu, a cine artiste settled in Tiruchi, said he was a member of the South Indian Film Artistes’ Association and supported actor Vishal group for the election.

He said the Tiruchi District Drama Artistes’ Association was yet to provide membership cards to them. Mr. Babu said drama artistes had sought permission to cast their vote in person instead of exercising their franchise through postal vote.

At this juncture their signatures were misused by the Tiruchi District Drama Artistes Association general secretary Mastan who was supporting the rival Radha Ravi faction, Mr. Babu alleged.

Seeking action against Mr. Mastan, the petitioner appealed to the police to retrieve their voting rights. Upon receipt of the complaint, the Fort Police issued a CSR (Community Service Register) receipt to the petitioner, police sources said and added that the Mastan group had been called for inquiry.
