Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Thursday urged the Election Commission to check distribution of money and exercise of authority by the ruling AIADMK ahead of the by-election to the Srirangam constituency.
The ruling AIADMK has been using a large number of vehicles for propaganda and money to garner support for its party candidate contesting the by-poll, Mr. Ramakrishnan alleged.
Addressing the media here, Mr. Ramakrishnan said the Election Commission should intervene and take immediate steps to stop this.
The CPI(M) had decided to enter the fray as the AIADMK and the DMK “were mired in corruption” and also to oppose the communal forces, he said.
There was no difference in the policies pursued by the AIADMK and the DMK, he said and appealed to the electorate to teach a fitting lesson to the AIADMK in the ensuing by-election.
Alleging that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was deteriorating, Mr. Ramakrishnan claimed that violence against women and attacks against Dalits had increased between 2010 and 2013.
The Communist Party of India has extended support to the CPI(M) in the by-election, he said, adding that his party had sought support from other secular forces too.
