Cancer screening camp gets good response

The cancer screening camps organised by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, in association with Onco Club and GVN Hospital Tiruchi, received good response among the people.

More than 275 people belonging to Tiruverumbur and neighbouring areas turned up at the camps held at the Government Primary School, Kumaresapuram, and Government Higher Secondary School, Thuvakudi, on Sunday. Mammogram screening was done for 84 persons.

A special talk on cancer awareness and prevention was held on the occasion.

M. Jayakumaran, General Manager, Human Resource, BHEL, Tiruchi, inaugurated it.

Arun Seshachalam, oncologist, stressed the importance of creating awareness on cancer and breastfeeding. He advised people to avoid smoking and alcohol to avoid many types of cancers. 

G. Senthil Kumar, surgeon, indicated the various signs of cancer and stressed the importance of taking screening test at the early stage itself and advised the public to take up screening test particularly for women after 40 years.

Earlier, a cancer awareness rally was organised. Geetha Gopinath, patron, Arivalayam, a School for Special Children, flagged off the rally. More than 500 people, including students, volunteers, doctors, and paramedical staff members took part.
