Days after a video clip of students of a college in Thiruvanaikovil apparently cutting a cake using a machete went viral on social media, Srirangam Police launched an inquiry into the incident on Monday.
The incident came to the knowledge of the police after it got widely circulated on a social media platform on Sunday. Police sources said the incident happened on April 5 when a group of students took part in the bash on the roadside, raising eyebrows.
The video showed a big cake placed on a two-wheeler with two students cutting it apparently using a machete watched by their friends. The students were reportedly celebrating their farewell party near their institution situated along Nelson Road.
A police officer said the students used a knife meant for cutting fish. The police held inquiries with college authorities regarding the incident, besides questioning nine students who were part of the bash.
