BJP spokesperson assures party support to BHELSIA

On the request from BHEL Small Industries' Association (BHELSIA), Nirmala Sitharaman, National Spokesperson, Bharathiya Janata Party, on Wednesday, assured to take up the problem of labour shortage they have been facing for years with the Central Government.

Ms. Nirmala advised BHELSIA president Rajappa Rajkumar to prepare a proposal for a training scheme and forward the same to the Department of Science and Technology. She committed the support of the BJP to the BHELSIA by promising to take up the issue in Parliament.

Mr. Rajappa Rajkumar who led a delegation of industrialists also discussed with her the challenges BHEL vendors in Tiruchi face as a fall out of the diversion of PSU's conversion orders to away centre fabricators. The small and medium enterprises were unable to compete with large players, who, he said, were in an advantageous position owing to economy of scale.

Explaining the sustainable model of development adopted by SMEs in countries like Italy and Korea, Ms. Nirmala suggested that the BHELSIA adopt the cluster concept. The industrialists wanted capital for establishing its own raw material bank at nominal interest, for materialising the cluster concept.

The BJP's Industry Cell, she said, would remind the Centre about a unique scheme former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had evolved to support SMEs to have their own raw material bank through bulk loans at nominal interest rates.
