Territorial jurisdiction of Bharathidasan University (BDU) has shrunk following the incorporation of colleges in Mayiladuthurai district by Annamalai University, Chidambaram.

After ceding 14 affiliated colleges in Mayiladuthurai district, Bharathidasan University has now been left with 147 affiliated institutions, Registrar In-Charge L. Ganesan said.

Bharathidasan University's jurisdiction is now confined to the districts of Ariyalur, Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruchi and Thiruvarur.

This year, only the first-year students in the 14 colleges in Mayiladuthurai district are under the control of Annamalai University. Existing students in intermediate and final years in UG and those in final year in PG, will continue to be administered by Bharathidasan University, according to university sources.

After completion of two academic years, all the 14 affiliated colleges will come entirely under the control of Annamalai University. Proximity to the new parent university is seen as quite advantageous by the faculty in these colleges.
