An awareness campaign on child sexual abuse on buses was taken up by Confederation of Indian Industry’s Young Indians (Yi), Tiruchi Chapter, in the city on Tuesday.
The initiative taken up under Project Komal in association with the Childline was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Yadav said that in many cases, children were often found to be abused by persons known to them or neighbours.
The police was also taking awareness initiatives and conducting training for its officers. The launch of the awareness campaign in buses will help sensitise students and children, he said.
Awareness stickers were pasted on about 150 city and college/school buses. Pamphlets were also distributed.
Fathima Bathool, chair, Yi, Tiruchi Chapter, Ponnambalam, co-chair, and Ketan J.Vora, director, Project Komal, participated in the campaign.
Yi has already held awareness programme on child sexual abuse at various schools under Project Komal.
