The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has conveyed its concern to Governor and Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit about “flaws” in the process of recruitment of faculty at Bharathidasan University (BDU), Tiruchi.
Contravention of the reservation policy in violation of judicial pronouncements, misleading advertisements, and a lack of transparency have been listed as the flaws in a petition that the AUT has re-submitted to the Governor, demanding immediate annulment of the recruitment process.
Questioning BDU’s approach of considering the entire institution as a single unit for the purpose of direct recruitment of teaching faculty despite a clear directive from the Higher Education Department to follow the existing policy of treating individual departments as single units, M.S. Bala Murugan, AUT State General Secretary apprehended that letting the recruitment process progress further will be tantamount to dilution of the autonomy of State Universities.
Allotment of 15 out of 54 vacancies of teaching positions for the ‘Destitute Widows’ category was unusual, Prof. Bala Murugan said, and wondered how the university could declare that the performance in an interview alone would be the sole criteria for selection after short-listing candidates based on academic criteria.
