Aural treat for music lovers

It was a rare opportunity for the music lovers of the city for two days till Saturday when they listened to vocal concerts on compositions of the Musical Trinity and other Vaggeyakara.

Organised by the All India Radio, the music festival was divided into four sessions and two sessions were organised each day.

Vocal recitals on compositions of saint Thyagaraja, Mysore Vasudevachar, Shyama Sastri and Muthuswamy Dikshitar provided a treat to the listeners.

The whole of Rasika Ranjana Sabha – the venue for the concerts -- was filled with quality audience.

Noted vidwan Popuri Gowrinath rendered the concert on the compositions of Saint Thyagaraja, followed by Shwetha Venkatesh (Mysore Vasudevachar); Swamimalai S.K. Suresh (Shyama Sastry) and B. Ranjini Varma (Muthuswamy Dikshitar).

The recordings of the concerts will be broadcast on June 27, July 5, July 18 and July 26, in that order, according to a note from the All India Radio.
