A history sheeter anti-social was hacked to death by a three-member gang at Crawford area in the city on Monday night.

The victim, M. Vinod alias ‘Othakai’ Vinod, had murder and robbery cases against him in different police stations in the city limits.

Vinod was involved in finance business and is said to have charged exorbitant interest from those he had lent money.

Police sources said Vinod left his home at Anbu Nagar in Crawford area on Monday night.

Moments later, he was attacked by a three-member gang armed with sword in his head, face, neck and hand killing him on the spot.

Senior police officers who visited said the motorcycle said to have been used by one of the killers was found near the crime scene.

There were in all 30 cases booked against Vinod including four murder cases in which one of the victims was a city college student.

The sources believe that three known persons from the same area had murdered Vinod. The murder, the police say, was due to finance issue and exorbitant interest allegedly charged by Vinod.

The sources said the Vinod had lent money to a woman at exorbitant interest rate. As the woman was unable to repay the money, Vinod had allegedly ill-treated her relative for a couple of days after reportedly illegally confining him.

Police suspect that this could be the motive behind the murder.

The E. Pudur police are investigating.
