Sterilisation surgeries can be performed on about 30 dogs

The Tiruchi Corporation is all set to open a full-fledged animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination unit at the Konakkarai burial ground complex in the city soon. The unit is being established at a cost of ₹90 lakh and civil works are expected to be completed soon.

The facility would be spread over a built up area of 2740 square feet. Sterilisation surgeries can be performed on about 30 dogs at the unit a day.

“This will be a full-fledged facility and held carry out the animal birth control programme in the city. It will be opened soon,” said Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran, who inspected the progress of the construction works at the site recently.

The facility would house operation theatre, pre and post operative wards, clinical wards to accommodate animals with diseases, doctors’ rooms and isolation wards for animals infected with rabies.
