October 25, 2011 03:13 pm | Updated 03:13 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

A few candidates of panchayat wards who had lost elections by narrow margins represented their grievances before the District Collector raising suspicions on the counting process.

Of the complaints made, two pertain to elections in the Tiruverumbur panchayat union.

‘Narikurava' community

According to official sources, Durairaj, who lost from ward 6 of Thirunedunkulam panchayat covering Devarayaneri where people belonging to ‘narikurava' community reside in large numbers, made a representation to the District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan that a mistake in the counting process denied him of a victory chance.

Meanwhile, supporters of another losing candidate Manjula in Pathalapettai panchayat, who contested on the comb symbol in the ward 1, staged an agitation in front of the Tiruverumbur panchayat union office, though she had secured 64 votes more than her rival.

There were similar complaints from candidates representing wards in Nanjaisangenthi and Malavai panchayats in Pullambadi panchayat union, Muthurasanallur in Anthanallur panchayat union, and Thoppampatti in Manapparai panchayat union.
