ADRC can ensure speedy justice: Acting CJ

14.73 lakh cases settled through mega Lok Adalat conducted across the State

Alternative Disputes Resolution Centre (ADRC) have come in handy to ensure speedy justice to the litigants , said Satish K.Agnihotri, Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

Inaugurating the ADRC and family court building constructed at a cost of Rs.1 crore on the District Court Complex here on Sunday, Justice Agnihotri said that ADRC and family court provide a conducive environment to those seeking legal remedy. Litigants should feel free to explain and express certain facts without fear or apprehension. He appealed litigants to utilise the facility to resolve their problems amicably.

Mr.Agnihotri said that the mega Lok Adalat was a great success in the State. The adalat conducted across the State on Saturday resulted in settling of 14.73 lakh cases with a total award of Rs.819.19 crore, including 31,203 cases in Tiruchi district with an award of Rs.11.21 crore.

The Acting Chief Justice appealed to the lawyers to adhere to the tradition, values and reputation of the 125-year-old court that was protected and guarded by the legal fraternity for generations . Justice S. Rajeswaran, Judge, Madras High Court, said that lawyers and judicial officers have a greater responsibility in handling a variety of issues. The ADRC was one of the platforms that ensured speedy disposal of cases. Justice B. Rajendran, Judge, Madras High Court, said that the ADRC and family court were the need of the time – both for lawyers and litigants.P. Velmurugan, Principal District and Sessions Judge, and A.P. Balachandran, Chief Judicial Magistrate, offered felicitations.
