About 300 members of Association of University Teachers (AUT) staged a demonstration here on Monday demanding appropriate action by the State government on the DVAC enquiry report pertaining to faculty appointments in Bharathidasan University (BDU). The national secretary of All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations P. Jayagandhi; former State president of AUT K. Pandiyan, M. Ravi Chandran, General Secretary, and other senior functionaries questioned the silence of the department of higher education and the Chancellor over the issue. In a press release, the Chairman of AUT University Coordination Council (UCC), Tiruchi and Thanjavur Zones, R. Samba Sivam, said there were “irregularities” in the appointment of faculties made in February 2011 in “serious violation of UGC norms and rules of the government”. The AUT-UCC had already drawn their attention to the violation of norms in the appointment of 106 guest lecturers in the eight constituent colleges.
