A musician in the making, M. Robin Patricks (19), a final-year undergraduate student of Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, is on course to paying a tribute to the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam by way of bringing out a musical album on his ‘Vision 2020’.
The right thrust for the ambitious project was provided by Dr. Kalam himself by releasing the album wrapper of the CD during his recent visit to the St. Joseph’s College.
Energised by his meeting with veteran music maestro Ilayaraja and a couple of interactions with Oscar winner A.R. Rehman in the recent past, the Tiruchi youth who is fired by Kalam’s vision is keen to infuse high quality into his rap compositions of about half-an-hour duration encompassing five Tamil songs.
The inspirational lyrics for a couple of compositions are to be framed by national awardee for best lyricist Pa Vijay. The rest will be by his well-wisher ‘Thannambikkai’ Tiruvalluvar, an engineer with the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, and himself, thanks to his grounding in classical music at the college and his tutelage under classical gurus Venkatalaskhmi and Chandrasekar. The lyrics will be based on the speeches by and about Dr. Kalam.
“I am planning to bring out the CD on a grand scale using the best of technology,” said the ambitious youth. Patrick is eagerly awaiting sponsor-support for bringing out his composition by May, 2010.
Trying out unique deeds are not new to Patrick who has till date completed more than 500 solo devotional and western performances.
During January 2007, as a higher-secondary student of St. Johns Vestry Higher Secondary school, this youngster broke the world record by playing 72 hours continuously on the keyboard. Patrick dedicated the victory that is now in the process of being ratified by the Guinness Book of World Records to Dr. Kalam.
During 2008, he tried a Guinness feat again by playing the keyboard blindfolded for 12 hours. His recital comprised over 30 self-composed devotional and fusion tunes, western, classical, and film numbers. It was to promote the cause of eye and blood donation, and feeding the needy.
