Workshop conducted for panchayat presidents

The Village Resource Centre of Dr.M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) at Annavasal, conducted a consultative workshop on National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) for selected panchayat presidents of Pudukottai district here recently.

R.Rajkumar, senior scientist of MSSRF, said that the workshop was being conducted for the panchayat presidents on the request of Union Ministry of Rural Development and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

He said that various works carried out under the NREG scheme would be documented in two villages in the second week of April based on the performance and innovation.

A.Narayanamoorthy, Professor and Director, Department of Rural Development, Alagappa University, who inaugurated the workshop by releasing a handbook on NREGA, said that NREGA was not merely an employment generation programme but also rebuilds the rural infrastructure. M.S.Lakshmi, president of Pudukottai District Women Panchayat Presidents' Association, and others spoke.
