The trial run of the temple car built for Sri Vedaranyeswarar Temple at Vedaranyam will be held on February 2.

The temple car, generally used during the Masi Magam festival was out of use, as it remained in a damaged condition. The wheels had become weak and unsafe for use during the festival in the past six decades. The processional idol of Sri Hamsa Nadana Bhavani Vidanga Thyagarajar will be taken around the procession during the festival. The new car was built at an expenditure of ₹ 50 lakh. Its height is 18 feet and has major carvings related to the history and legend of the temple.

Nagapapttinam Collector S. Palanisamy inspected the temple car on Monday. and oversaw the arrangements being made by the temple authorities for the smooth conduct of the run.

The Collector said that it would be a local holiday for Vedaranyam taluk. Special buses would be operated. Medical camps would be organised at Rajaji Park and the Government Hospital. Four temporary bus stands would be set up to avoid congestion. The ‘maha kumbabhishekam’ of the temple was performed in October 2015.
