Carnatic vocalists, Bombay Jayashri Ramnath and Abhishek Raghuram, would render a collaborative concert in tribute to their revered teacher, violin virtuoso Lalgudi G Jayaraman (1930-2013), at the Sri Saptarishishwarar Temple in his home town Lalgudi on Tuesday.

Titled ‘To Sir With Love’, the evening concert features singers Bombay Jayashri Ramnath and Abhishek Raghuram, who will be performing with violinists Vittal Ramamurthy and Embar S Kannan, mridangam exponents Anantha R Krishnan and B Ganapathiraman and tabla player Ojas Adhiya.

Padma Bhushan awardee Lalgudi Gopala Iyer Jayaraman is credited with mentoring innumerable musicians in his lifetime.

Among these accomplished students is Bombay Jayshri, who was nominated for an Oscar for the best song ‘Pi’s Lullaby’, a track that she wrote and performed for composer Mychael Danna in the 2012 film ‘Life Of Pi’, directed by Ang Lee. Though it didn’t win the award that year, ‘Pi’s Lullaby’ was the first-ever Tamil song to be nominated for the Academy Awards.

Abhishek Raghuram is in many ways a chip off the old block, as a talented young vocalist, who is carrying on a family tradition of musicianship. The paternal grandson of percussion pundit Palghat Raghu, he is the maternal grand-nephew of Lalgudi Jayaraman.

Raghuram was conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2013. He has performed with several eminent musicians like Dr T K Murthy, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Karaikudi Mani, Trichy Sankaran, G Harishankar, Ganesh Kumaresh, Mysore Nagaraj and Manjunath, Jayateerth Mewundi and Sanjeev Abhyankar.

‘To Sir With Love’ will be held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Entry is open to all.
