Third aerobridge coming up at airport

July 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The international airport here is poised to have a third aerobridge in the coming months.

Infrastructure work was being carried out and it was expected to be completed by August. Officials said the aerobridge would be commissioned by the end of this year.

The airport handled over 11 lakh passengers during the 2015-16 financial year and the aerobridge would be yet another add on facility. The airport has seen a steady increase in the number of overseas flight services as well as passengers over the years. Thus, the need for a third aerobridge was felt.

According to official data, the airport had handled a little over two lakh international passengers during April and May this fiscal. Sources said there was heavy rush of passengers during morning and night hours adding that the aerobridge would be of great convenience to them.

Besides, a slew of other facilities have been proposed in the near future.
