Tamil University students, teachers and staff took out a procession here on Thursday to create awareness of World Classical Tamil Conference to be held at Coimbatore from June 23 to 27.

Folk dances like karakattam, mayilattam and silambattam formed part of the procession.

M. S. Shanmugham, Collector, flagged off the procession from the railway station.

S. P. Saravanan, Registrar of the University, participated.

As the procession was going via the main Gandhiji Road, it started raining. Braving the heavy downpour, shouting slogans ‘Tamil Vazhga' the participants reached the Tamil University palace complex office.
