Special steps are being taken to treat persons afflicted with leprosy in the district. Their health was being closely monitored by non-medical supervisors, said M. Poongothai, Joint Director of Health, Tiruchi.

The Health Department has embarked on a special drive to ensure proper treatment for persons with symptoms of the disease and for curing patients afflicted with leprosy. Focus was on early detection of leprosy for ensuring effective curing of the disease.

Earlier in the day, students of various colleges including K.A.P. Viswanatham Medical College and Hospital, Teacher Training and Nursing Institutes took out an awareness procession on ‘World Anti-Leprosy Day' from the Collectorate to the office of the Deputy Director of Health (Leprosy). The students carried placards with slogans on early detection of leprosy and its timely treatment.
