Relief distributed to families of police personnel

A sum of Rs 2 lakh has been sanctioned from the ‘Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund' to each of the bereaved families of three police personnel who were killed in a road accident last month.

A Sub-Inspector of Police and two head constables who were on duty at a check-post at Mathur on the borders of Tiruchi and Pudukottai districts, were fatally run over by a sand-laden lorry.

The incident happened on June 15.

The District Collector, A. Suganthi, on Sunday, gave away the relief of Rs. two lakh to S. Pitchayi, widow of Sub-Inspector A. Subbiah; D. Nirmala, widow of K. Durairaj and K. Selvarani widow of M. Kuzhandaisamy.

The Collector also expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and advised them to utilise the relief fund for the future of their children.

P. Moorthy, Superintendent of Police, was among those who were present.
