The former head of the Department of History of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, K.Venidevi, was presented with the Best Historian award by the Dr.M.Rajamanikkanar Centre for Historical Research here recently.
The award was presented to Dr. Venidevi in recognition of her exemplary contribution to the study of History. The award was presented to her by S. Palaniyandi, former president, Indian Medical Association, Tiruchi, during the K.R. Srinivasan memorial endowment lecture jointly hosted by the P.G. and Research Department of History, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, and Dr.Rajamanikkanar Centre for Historical Research on the college campus. The award was presented under the Subramaniyan Palaniyandi Endowment.
Principal M. Jayanthi said that Dr.Venidevi had chosen the so called dark period of history between 3rd and 6th centuries for her research.
R. Kalaikkovan, Director, Dr. Rajamanikkanar Centre for Historical Research, appealed to the students to contribute towards protecting historical monuments. M. Nalini, Head, Department of History, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, highlighted the achievements of Dr.Venidevi as a research scholar and a teacher.
Dr.Venidevi said the award would strengthen her commitment to history and research in epigraphy. L. Manimikalai, Assistant Professor, Department of History, spoke.
