Litigant public, advocates, and office bearers of service organisations have urged the District Legal Services Authority to initiate action for starting a District munsiff and a judicial magistrate court in Karambakudi, in the wake of the creation of a new taluk with Karambakudi as headquarters a couple of years ago.
In a petition submitted to the authority at its ‘free legal awareness campaign' organised at Karambakudi recently, the office bearers of Rotary Club of Karambakudi said that the inception of the court in Karambakudi was a felt need.
In the absence of the court, litigant public had to go over to the court in Pudukottai for civil disputes, and to the court in Alankudi for criminal cases. While Pudukottai was about 50 km away, the Alankudi town was about 30 km from Karambakudi.
R. Sadayandi, District Sessions Judge of Mahila Court, who received the petitions from the public on the occasion, explained the role played by the Authority in ensuring free legal services to the needy. He also spoke on the Authority's efforts for resolving various disputes for protecting women's rights.
R. Navamurthy, Sub-ordinate Judge and secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, in his address, said that the Authority has been taking all efforts for issuing the birth certificates to the needy. It has directed the banks to sanction the educational loans to eligible petitioners.
M. Vadivel, Judicial magistrate, Alankudi and chairman of Alankudi taluk legal services committee; S.M. Shahabudeen, president of the Rotary Club of Karambakudi; M.K. Arokiasamy, club secretary; and Rotary District vice governor, N. Chandramohan, were among those who were present.
