A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways inspected the Golden Rock Railway Workshop here on Thursday and obtained first hand information about its functioning.
The Committee headed by its chairman and Lok Sabha MP T.R. Baalu was briefed about the activities of the over 75-year-old railway workshop which in addition to carrying out periodic overhaul of diesel engines is also involved in the manufacture of wagons and steam engines besides exporting metre gauge locos to certain third world countries after carrying out modifications in them.
Railway sources said a presentation was made by senior workshop officials to the Parliamentary Panel members about the type of works the organisation was carrying out and its future plans.
The Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Railway Workshop, D. Shunmuganandam, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, S. Subrahmanyan, senior workshop and divisional railway officials were present on the occasion.
The Panel members went around some shops inside the workshop.
The other members of the Panel were Khiladilal Bairwa, Sombhai Gandalal Koli Patel, Rudramadhav Ray, Uma Shankar Singh, Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi, Ishwar Singh, Omprakash Mathur and Abani Roy.
The Joint Director, Railway Board, S. Parvez, Chief Motive Power Engineer, Southern Railway, Paramanand Singh and Chief Workshop Engineer, Southern Railway, R. Kuppan accompanied the Panel members. The Panel members then inspected the Diesel Loco Shed in the city where they spent nearly an hour.
