New plan to ease congestion at bus stand

TIRUCHI: A new plan has been evolved to ease congestion at the central bus stand and its vicinity.

Officials of the city police, Tiruchi Corporation, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Revenue, Transport Department and owners of private omni buses found the plan, to be put in place from February 12, at a joint meeting held here on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Prabakaran and Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran were among those who participated in the meeting.

Accordingly, buses proceeding in the Dindigul route from the central bus stand would go via Periyar statue, old SETC bus stand, Aristo roundabout and take Dindigul Road.

Buses proceeding in the Madurai route from the central bus stand would ply via Periyar statue, old SETC bus stand, Railway Junction roundabout and Viralimalai Junction.

Buses from Villupuram Division coming to central bus stand would be operated via TVS Tollgate, Head Post Office, Mutharaiyar statue, MGR statue, Vestry School roundabout, Collector office and Periyamilaguparai.

After dropping passengers, the buses would go via city bus stand to enter the TNSTC depot. From the depot, the buses would go via Mutharayar statue, MGR statue, Vestry roundabout, Collector office and Periyamilaguparai to reach the central bus stand.

Karnataka State Roadways Transport Corporation buses would be operated from the Keeranur bay in the city bus stand on Sundays, a press release said.

Buses bound for central bus stand from Madurai would come via Viralimalai Junction, Aristo roundabout, Gorimedu and Periyamilaguparai.

Buses coming to central bus stand from Chennai, Salem, Thanjavur and Pudukottai routes would come via TVS Tollgate, Head Post office, Mutharaiyar statue, MGR statue, Vestry roundabout, Collector office and Periyamilaguparai.

Buses from Karur, Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore would come via Karur By Pass road, K.T. Junction, Sastri Road, Anna Nagar Uzhavar Sandhai, MGR statue, Vestry round about, Collector office and Periyamilaguparai to reach central bus stand.

Buses from the depot near TVS Tollgate to central bus stand would go via Head Post Office, R.C. School Junction and Railway Junction round about.

Town buses proceeding to Inamkulathur from the city bus stand would start from the Viralimalai bus stop and go via Periyar statue, old SETC bus stand, Aristo roundabout to enter Dindigul Road.

All share autos which were operated from the central bus stand area would ply from a spot close to St. John Church.

Chennai-bound omni buses would be operated from close to Thevar statue. Coimbatore-bound omni buses would start from opposite Gajapriya Hotel. Private buses would not be allowed to halt on VOC Road.

City buses bound for central bus stand from Chathram bus stand and proceeding through Woraiyur, Thillai Nagar and Collector office would go via Periyamilaguparai.

Chathram bus stand bound buses from central bus stand would go via Periyar statue, old SETC bus stand, Aristo round about, Gorimedu, Milaguparai and Collector office.

It was decided at the meeting to meet once in three months to discuss traffic-related issues, the release added.
