Mock emergency drill organised in BHEL

An emergency mock drill was conducted at the Seamless Steel Tube Plant (SSTP) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) here on Saturday.

The mock drill was conducted to face emergency situation arising out of fire in the LPG yard. The SSTP has two LPG bullets of 40 MT capacity with the drill aimed at controlling loss during crisis situation by being in a state of preparedness to meet any exigencies.

Fire fighting teams from HAPP, Ordnance Factory Tiruchi, Airports Authority of India, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department joined the BHEL fire service during the mock drill that was conducted in the presence of R. Erai Arul, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, senior SSTP officials and representatives from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Inamkulathur and HAPP.

In the review meeting held after the drill, Mr. Erai Arul underscored the need to conduct mock drills at regular intervals to combat emergency situation. S. Karunakaran, General Manager, SSTP and Site Controller said LPG storage was done meeting all stringent requirements of the Explosive Inspectorate. Captain S. Palanivelu, the Emergency Officer coordinated the activities of mutual aid teams comprising fire fighters from various organisations. S. Sundaramoorthy, Deputy Manager- Safety and G. Mohan, Deputy General Manager, Occupational Health Services coordinated the activities of the medical team. Michael, Deputy Manager acted as the Liaison Officer taking care of the task of evacuating the personnel to safe point.
