Mr. Vijayan said conference to be held from June 23 to 27 would indeed be a celebration of the classical language status bestowed upon the Tamil language.

The occasion also saw the opening of the Panchayat building and a travellers' rest station.

To mark the Chief Minister's birthday celebrations, herbal saplings were distributed to the students.

A. Annadurai, District Revenue Officer, K. Rukmani, Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Tiruchi, were among those present.
