Mayor honours corporation employees

Honouring city corporation employees who have completed 20 years of service with a certificate and a savings patra of Rs. 500 marked the highlight of the Republic Day celebration.

Mayor A.Jaya who felicitated the employees, also presented a gold medal to S.Jagadeesan, a corporation driver for his accident-free service for 25 years. Kanagaraj, another employee attached to Srirangam division, was honoured with a certificate for having donated blood for 60 times. Earlier, she hoisted the Tri-colour.

K.Veera Raghava Rao, Corporation Commissioner, said work on augmenting the drinking water supply scheme, being executed at an outlay of Rs.221.42 crore, was being progressed on a fast pace . The drive against use of sub-standard plastics, initiated by the corporation, had gone down well, he said, and sought the cooperation of the councillors and members of the public.

Later, Ms. Jaya offered floral tributes at the Gandhi Mandapam and garlanded the statue of the father of nation at Gandhi Market.
