Hours after falling down from a coconut tree on Wednesday evening here, a 35-year-old man died at the hospital in the early hours on Thursday.

The deceased identified as A. Annadurai, a resident of Keezha Devadhanam, was a painter. His wife had passed away three months ago.

Police sources said Annadurai was extremely disturbed ever since his wife’s death and had reportedly been consuming alcohol frequently.

On Wednesday evening, he climbed the coconut tree in the backyard of his house apparently in an inebriated condition.

Sources said he accidentally fell down from the tree and sustained severe head injury.

He was admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital here. He succumbed in the early hours on Thursday. The Fort Police have registered a case.
