MDMK fast seeking restoration of quota

A large number of cadre belonging to Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by P.R.Siva, MLA (MDMK) of Tirunallar constituency in the district observed a fast near the church here on Thursday.

They demanded the Puducherry government to restore the 18 per cent reservation for the Karaikal region in the government medical college in Puducherry.

Earlier on Tuesday, schools and colleges in the district were closed on Tuesday on the same issue.

A.M.H.Nazeem, MLA of Karaikal constituency and Leader of the Opposition in the Puducherry Assembly along with three other MLAs - V.K.Ganapathy (Congress), P.R.Siva (MDMK) and M.V.Omalingam (AIADMK) staged demonstrations demanding the Puducherry Government to restore the 18 per cent reservation in medical college seats.

V.M.C.Sivakumar (DMK) and A.Marimuthu (Ind), the two other MLAs in Karaikal district had also extended their support.
