Labour officials raid shops

2,000 packed items seized and 344 cases registered in Tiruchi, Pudukottai districts

Officials of the Labour Department carried out sudden checks in commercial establishments falling under the Central region on Sunday and Monday and seized those packed items that did not contain information including name of the manufacturer, year and date of manufacture, name of the product, its weight and maximum retail price.

The checks were carried out in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts by the respective Labour Inspectors on instruction from the Commissioner of Labour Hans Raj Verma and Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Tiruchi, C. Somburajan.

A press release issued by Mr. Somburajan here today said the checks were conducted in 500 commercial establishments in Tiruchi and Pudukottai districts by officials led by S. Sundararaj, Inspector of Labour, during which 2,000 packed items were seized and 344 cases registered.

The officials led by Mathivanan, Inspector of Labour, conducted checks in a total number of 116 establishments in Perambalur and Ariyalur districts and 186 packed items were seized with 92 cases having been booked.

In Thanjavur district, the officials led by Divyanathan, Labour Inspector, checked 404 establishments and booked 238 cases while seizing 400 packets. As many as 495 establishments were checked in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts by a team led by labour Inspector, V. Swaminathan during which 220 cases were registered and 386 packed items were seized.
