The International Cultural Federation (ICF), Tiruchi, on Monday announced the ICF Promotion Award 2010 for Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for his contributions to the fields of music, drama and language.
Vladimir V. Mariy, Vice-Consul, Consulate General of the Russian Federation in South India, who honoured ICF award winners in different categories at a function in the Indra Ganesan College of Engineering here expressed his keenness to felicitate the Chief Minister at the auditorium of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Chennai, for which he was the Director. The function marked the inaugural of the ‘Indo-Russian Science and Technology and Cultural Friendship'.
Mr. Vladimir handed over the ICF International Humanitarian Award to V.G. Santhosam, ICF Patron and Chairman of VGP Group; ICF Best Musical Promoter Award to V. Srinivasan, Assistant Station Director, All India Radio, Tiruchi; ICF International Social Worker Award to VKN Kannappan, ICF Patron and industrialist; ICF Best Administrator Award to the District Collector T. Soundiah; and the ICF International Educator Award to T. Ganesan, Chairman, Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions.
He spoke on the Indo-Russia ties spanning decades, observing that independent India drew its strength from the Soviet Union of which Russia was part then. He felt that India has undergone a transformation in the last 30 years and underscored the need for strengthening industrial ties between the two countries. Both countries were moving together in the areas of space research and nuclear power generation.
