The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) has opened one more isolation ward for treating H1N1 patients. With this, the number of isolation ward in the hospital has gone up to three.
The opening of third isolation card comes up in the wake of admission of many fresh cases with the symptoms of H1N1 in the recent past. Marry Lilly, Dean, MGMGH, told The Hindu that it had kept open the third isolation ward as a precautionary step. Situation had arisen to keep the additional ward if other two wards overflowed with H1N1 patients.
She said about 15 patients with cold and respiratory problems had been getting treatment in the hospital. They were from Pudukottai, Kumbakonam, Perambalur, Karur and others.
Four of them were tested positive for H1N1 influenza. The test results of other patients were awaited. Ms. Lilli said that all of them were responding well to the treatment. It was observed that private hospitals referred patients to the GH with the symptoms of H1N1 around 10.30 pm daily. Instruction had been given to the doctors to extend best possible treatment to the patients even if they admitted at odd hours.
