Eight killed in road accident near Thiruvarur

Eight persons were killed and five others injured when a Scorpio van in which they were travelling hit a parked lorry carrying gravel at Ammaiyappan village near here on Thursday.

The deceased and injured belong to Ernakulam in Kerala and they were en route to Velankanni in Nagapattinam district when the accident occurred. The deceased were Mathews (33), Leela (35), Thangammal (65), Joana Joseph (10), Shiny Joseph (35), Ranji alias Rathore, car driver, and a one and a half month old baby Liny and John Joseph (12).

The injured were Kurien (78), Joshi (42), Tharin (six), two-year-old Mathews and Ebi Antony (23).

They were admitted to the Tiruvarur Government Hospital and Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

Tiruvarur taluk police have registered a case.
