Dalit girl murder: Stalin demands CBCID probe

February 05, 2017 10:18 pm | Updated 10:18 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

DMK working president M. K. Stalin on Sunday demanded a probe by the Crime Branch CID into the killing of a Dalit minor girl at Sirukadambur.

In an informal chat with reporters, after consoling Rajakili, mother of the victim at Sirukadambur, he said that the police had failed to act swiftly. The State government should order a probe by the CBCID into the killing to bring out the truth. Stressing the demand, the DMK would stage a demonstration in Ariyalur on February 10, he said.

Earlier, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) staged a demonstration in Ariyalur, demanding CBCID enquiry into the killing of a Dalit girl.

VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, who presided over the protest, said that though a few persons were arrested in the case, the real accused had not been arrested yet. Moreover, the investigation was not on the right track. Following public outcry over the tardy investigation, the police had detained two of the accused under the Goondas Act. The case should be probed by the CBCID.

Mr. Thirumavalavan said that the State government should give ₹50 lakh compensation to the victim’s family. Similarly, one of the family members of the victim should be offered a government job.

Earlier, he met Rajakili, mother of the victim, and consoled her. She also participated in the demonstration.
