Completion of 8,447 houses by end of month: Collector

Construction of about 8,447 houses under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme would be completed by the end of this month, said Collector Mahesan Kasirajan, here on Sunday.

Speaking at the valediction of the multimedia campaign and exhibition organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations here, he said once these houses were built, work on 39,569 more houses enumerated this year would be taken up.

Mr.Kasirajan said Tiruchi was in the forefront in implementation of welfare schemes. He urged officials of several departments to complete works within the stipulated time. He commended the Information and Public Relations Department for organising the informative exhibition, which was visited by over 65,000 persons.

The Collector distributed the best stall award to the Department of Town Panchayats.

The second prize was bagged by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation and the third prize by the Tiruchi Corporation. He also distributed prizes to the winners of the health baby contest organised as part of the exhibition.

Mr.Kasirajan distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.48.79 lakh, including marriage assistance, old age pensions, agriculture implements and assistive devices for the differently abled, to about 219 beneficiaries. Officials with good service records were awarded commendation certificates.

T.T.Balsamy, Corporation Commissioner, K.Venkataraman, Superintending Engineer, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, Metro Circle, R.Gunasekaran, Assistant Director, Arts and Culture, and S.Pandian, Information and Public Relations Officer, spoke.
