Competition brings out flair for Thirukkural

Around 130 students from 25 institutions in and around the district demonstrated their flair for Thirukkural at the Thirukkural Vizha 2010, an oratorical competition organised by Shriram Ilakkia Kazhagam, the literary wing of Shriram Group at Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School on Sunday.

The contest was held under four categories: Junior, Senior, Super Senior and College level. The quarterfinals held in the morning had students divided into groups of ten, with the first and second place winners from each group contesting the semi-finals held separately for each category. Two students have been selected from the semi-finals to compete in the final round in Chennai on August 28, where winners from all over Tamil Nadu would participate.

The winners and runners-up of the various levels are, Junior: S.S.Gnanabharathy and M.Soundarya of R.N. Oxford Matric School, Pandamangalam; Senior: K.Swathi, Sri Kalaivani Vidyalaya Matric HSS, Tiruchi and M.Sandiyapriya, Government HSS,Somarasampettai; Super-Senior: B.Gowtham, Sri Kalaivani Vidyalaya Matric HSS, Karaikudi and Prasanna Lakshmi, BHEL Matric HSS; College Level: R.Ambika, Anna University,Tiruchi and A.Shahul Hameed Bharat, Srimad Management College, Tiruchi.

Prizes were distributed to the winners by K.Sekar, Principal, Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Manachanallur. Earlier, Deputy Mayor, M.Anbazhagan inaugurated the event graced by Anbil Periyasamy, MLA, Tiruchi, V.Sujatha, Principal, Cauvery Womens College, M.Anburaj, Head Master, Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School and P.Saravana Kumar, Vice President, Sriram Chits.
