Chennai techie murder: Victim’s kin seek capital punishment

The family of Swathi on Saturday sought capital punishment for her murderer and thanked the police and the State government for tracing the accused quickly.

Reacting to the arrest of the suspect, P. Ramkumar, Swathi’s family members, who are in Srirangam to perform the obsequies, came out with a statement to the media here on Saturday evening. Earlier in the day, Swathi’s father and other family members performed the rituals on the banks of the Coleroon river in Srirangam.

The family thanked the government and, in particular, police officers, who worked round-the-clock to nab the accused swiftly. “We humbly request that the accused be brought before law to get him the capital punishment,” the statement, read out by K. Govindarajan, paternal uncle of Swathi, said.

The family also recorded its gratitude to the Madras High Court for taking up the case suo motu and all those who raised their voice against the heinous crime.

“We accept Swathi’s loss as a sacrifice for the cause of safety of women of the country,” the family said.
