Chennai bound trains delayed

The damages caused to three points on the track near Tiruchi Junction by a shunting train led to delayed running of few overnight trains proceedng to Chennai on late Saturday night.

A shunting train with two coaches was waiting for signal near Tiruch junction at 8.55 p.m. on Saturday.

At this juncture signal was given for some other train coming from Dindigul side to enter the Tiruchi junction. The driver of the shunting train mistook the signal and entered into wrong route causing damages to three points on the track.

Due to this no train could be received on platforms number 1, 2 and 3 of Tiruchi junction either from Dindigul side or from the yard.

Officials rushed to the spot and set right the damages. The Mangalore-Chennai express was detained at Tiruchi Fort station for about 90 minutes. The Chennai bound Rockfort express also suffered a delay of more than an hour.
