Car festival held

Car festival of Sri Sarangapaniswamy Temple was held here on Tuesday as part of Chithirai Peruvizha. Hundreds of devotees pulled the car which was mounted with Sarangapanisamy and Nachiyars. One among the 108 Divya Desams of Vaishnavites, Sarangapansiwamy temple at Kumbakonam is known for its grandeur. The car weighing 155 tonnes and 30 ft in height moved gently on the four main streets around the temple at Kumbakonam. It is said to be one of the biggest and beautiful cars next to the Srivilliputhur and Tiruvarur cars. Chithirai peruvizha started on April 8. Procession of the Lord was taken in various palanaquins like Silver Suryaprabai, Silver Sesha Vahanam, Silver Garuda Vahanam, Olai Sapparam, Silver Hanumantha Vahanam, Silver Yaanai vahanam and Pinnai Mara Vahanam, Vennaithazhi was held on April 17.
