BHEL wins environment award

The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi unit, has won the Greentech Environment Award in the engineering sector for the second successive year for outstanding contribution to environment management.

T. Baskaran, Additional General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, received the award on behalf of BHEL, Tiruchi, from Anjum Parwez, Managing Director, Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited, Bengaluru, at a function held at Bengaluru recently, according to a BHEL press release.

BHEL, Tiruchi, has been selected for the award for planting over one million trees on 95% of its total area, creating awareness on solid waste management among employees, township residents and students and teachers of campus schools, collecting rain water in disused quarries and using it for horticulture.

It was also in recognition of its efforts in setting up coolant recovery systems, hydraulic oil reclamation systems, reusing and recycling water in its factory, introducing clean technology solutions, using solar LED street lights, use of battery operated vehicles and use of solar water heating systems and organic waste converters in its canteens, the release added.
