Another fire station will come up in the central region encompassing nine districts which will increase the total tally of fire stations in the region to 90.

Muthandikuppam in Cuddalore district, which falls under the central region of Fire and Rescue Services Department, is one among the seven places where a new fire station is to be established. The other identified places where fire stations will come up are Athur in Dindigul district, Modakurichi and Asanur in Erode district, Gengavalli in Salem district, Rayakottai in Krishnagiri district and T. Nagar in Chennai.

The central region of Fire and Rescue Services Department encompasses Tiruchi, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Karur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts with equal number of fire divisions.
