A new scanner meant for the export cargo terminal at the Tiruchi international airport has been commissioned.

The need for a new scanner was felt for quite som time as the existing one had become old causing technical glitches frequently much to the discomfiture of the export community and stakeholders.

Realising the need, the Airports Authority of India recently procured a scanner manufactured in the United States of America and it was put to use on Wednesday.

All type of export cargo was being examined in the scanner at the cargo terminal prior to being shipped to various overseas destinations by different foreign carriers.

The Tiruchi Airport Director, K. Gunasekaran, commissioned the scanner in the presence of the AAI officials on Wednesday. The old scanner which was working would also be used simultaneously, said airport sources.
