Additional buildings to be built

The Ariyalur Government District Headquarters Hospital is being expanded at a cost of ₹9.50 crore under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Limited (TANCEM), said D. Sabitha, Principal Secretary and Managing Director, TANCEM, here on Friday.

Additional building with a plinth area of 36,000 square feet with facilities such as reception, laundry, in and out-patients sections were being built with the fund at the hospital.

Chairing a consultative meeting to discuss the CSR works of TANCEM here, Ms. Sabitha said the former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had allotted ₹675 crore for the TANCEM expansion project.

TANCEM in association with the district administration had taken up various development works in and around Ariyalur under the Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Besides construction of additional buildings at the Government Hospital, developments works such as construction of additional classrooms for government schools, sinking of borewells, installation water purifiers and construction toilets were taken up at a cost of ₹2.12 crore in Ariyalur, Anandavadi, Manakudi, Srinivasapuram, Thamaraikulam, Hussainabad, Rajiv Nagar, Walajahnagaram, Krishnapuram and Rowthanpatti.

Greening works

This apart, various greening works such as desilting of tanks, strengthening of bunds, plantation of saplings and creation of small gardens were taken up under a greening initiative at a cost of ₹1.90 crore, she said, according to a press release.

Thamarai S. Rajendran, Government Chief Whip and A. Saravanavelraj, Collector, were among those who participated in the review.
