727 youths given jobs at placement camp

3,031 youths from Annavasal and Viramalai attend the camp

As many as 727 youths were selected at the mega placement camp organised jointly by the Pudhu Vazhvu Thittam and State Rural Livelihood Mission.

In all, 3,031 youths from Annavasal and Viralimalai unions participated in the camp of whom 727 persons were selected for placement.

C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health, said that 27 firms, including five local companies had participated and conducted the interview. He said that similar camp would be held shortly to benefit a large number of youths. He gave away the placement orders to the candidates.

S. Ganesh, District Collector, presided over the meeting.

S. Vasumathi, District Project Officer, and V.C. Ramaiah, District panchayat president, spoke.

Mr. Baskar said the Pudhu Vazhvu Thittam, implemented in 155 village panchayats in Annavasal, Gandarvakottai, Karambakudi, and Kundrandarkovil panchayat unions in the district, had been playing a crucial role in poverty eradication programmes.

It had been empowering women and unemployed youths by imparting skills. Interest-free loans to 50 differentlly-abled persons, individual credit linkage, and training on operation of earthmovers had gone a long way in empowering the unemployed youths.

Later, the Minister gave away cheques to the tune of Rs.1.25 crore to women members of self-help groups, credit linkage to differently-abled persons. He gave away placement orders to those selected at the camp.
