5,000 litres of milk let into canal

June 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A delay in the procurement by the Tiruchi District Milk Producers’ Union led to milk turning sour and about 5,000 litres of milk was let into a canal near union office at Kottapattu in the city on Saturday.

A number of dairy farmers from Musiri and Thottiyam blocks who had brought the milk cans by autorickshaws and vans to the Aavin unit had to wait for four hours. The farmers had to transport the milk on their own as Aavin vans did not turn up in the village since Friday evening.

According to a cross-section of dairy farmers, about 11,200 litres of milk turned sour on Saturday morning because of a delay in procurement by Aavin authorities.
