‘₹4,550 crore disbursed as crop loan so far’

Over 6.31 lakh farmers in the State have so far been given ₹4,550 crore as crop loans during the current year, Sellur K.Raju, Minister for Cooperation said here on Sunday.

Speaking at the Cooperative Week celebrations here, Mr. Raju said about ₹10,000 crore would be disbursed as interest-free crop loans through the cooperative institutions in the State this year. In Pudukottai district, 21,355 farmers have been extended ₹110 crore as interest-free crop loan.

Mr. Raju also asserted that Tamil Nadu was a forerunner in getting compensation under the crop insurance scheme. About ₹6,120 crore has been disbursed to 26.14 lakh farmers as compensation for crop damages under the crop insurance scheme in the State. In Pudukottai district, about 1.08 lakh farmers have got ₹274 crore as compensation, he said.

Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar said ₹21 crore worth of welfare measures and credit advances were being distributed to 2,618 beneficiaries as part of the Cooperative Week celebrations.

E. A. Rathinasabapathy and P. Arumugam, MLAs, and Collector P. Uma Maheswari and other officials were present.
